Boxing
Power
‘I’m gonna be champ. I’m the kind
of guy, I just have to get to the threshold. Sometimes
it’s just difficult getting to the threshold.
Once I’m there and I’m in the dressing room
the night of the fight, I know I can’t be denied.’
-Mike Tyson -Total Sport magazine, April 1996,
interview by Steve Farhood. |

| There
is a vast array of varied emotions and qualities required
to enter a Boxing ring. To an outsider it might seem
difficult to comprehend the complexity of the sport,
for a spectator it is far too easy to view boxing as
a violent, aggressive sport with little skill involved.
Boxing is one of the most physically and mentally taxing
sports available and certainly it requires a unique
skill-set to compete at any level. In few sports do
you need to battle
with fear, pain, adrenaline, and a flurry of punches
whilst also remaining level headed enough
to read the opponent, enabling yourself to counter their
movements effectively.
Boxing is one of the few martial arts where you have
to back up technique and theory with real ‘full
contact’ experience.
Boxing is a sport that incorporates many different styles.
I have put together many of the most frequently seen
problems and incorporated them into the above CD. |

Example
suggestions (this CD also has seperate suggestions
for each position on the field);
Your
instinct for your opponents’ weaknesses and favourite
moves makes you a powerful opponent. Endurance
and strength are based in the mind, you have that power
of mind, you have the required focus to complete your
task, it’s yours, that’s true.
You develop your
own arousal level to perfection, fear is your ally backed
up by courage and action. Your
footwork is swift, balanced and poised. You move in
short, gliding steps keeping your opponent lined up
for sharp punches. You consistently
hit and avoid being hit. Get in close when you
get the opportunity, this will allow you to deliver
devastating hooks and uppercuts. Powerful
counter punches to the body, these are effective for
you. If you are at any stage overwhelmed by punches,
cover up briefly until you notice an opportunity to
take back control with a counter attack, do this with
calm confidence. Being relaxed
at all times increases your reaction times and makes
you swift. You realise your qualities for success
and use them to their fullest. Circle
your opponents’ blind side to unleash surprise
attacks. You are a points accumulator.
You deliver twice as many punches as your opponent.
Your infighting is tight and aggressive. You
are a smooth operator, you have strategy, tactics, skill,
endurance, speed, calmness, courage and the energy to
carry out your ambitions.
( Due to a commitment
of continued development these suggestions may alter
to those on your CD.)
